About Bruce Erickson

Hello my name is Bruce Erickson and I want to be your REALTOR®!

I was born in Edmonton and lived in the Callingwood area until I was 7 years old. I moved from the west end of Edmonton to the southside in Millwoods on Friday, July 31, 1987 – Black Friday! My family spent the first evening in our new house hiding in the downstairs closet as the worst Tornado in Canadian history wreaked havoc on the southside, dropping baseball-sized hail on our new house. Growing up in a single-parent family, my brother and I quickly learned that if you wanted something in life, you had to work hard for it. We were the boys who spent winters shovelling neighbours’ sidewalks and summers mowing grass for extra money to get ahead. When I was 14 years old, I obtained my first real job at a local chemical company sweeping shop and cleaning. I continued to work for this company for the next two decades and the owner graciously allowed me to choose my own hours after school. I progressed into the role of Product Technician when I was 16 years old and learned to blend chemicals, drive forklifts and various other warehouse duties. I continued to work throughout high school, where I graduated from J. Percy Page on the honour roll and received the Rutherford Scholarship for all three years. After high school, I continued to work 20 hours per week during the school year and full-time every summer to finance my own University education. I studied Science and graduated from the University of Alberta in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science with a Specialization in Biochemistry. Shortly afterward, I was accepted into Graduate School at the UofA and continued to work 20 hours per week to finance my education and my new basement suite. I graduated from the Department of Paediatrics in 2006 with a Master of Science in Medical Sciences. Within the year I passed the entrance examinations and began to work for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police forensic lab in Edmonton, where I was employed as a Forensic Technologist in the Biology Evidence Recovery Unit for 4 years. Then my previous employer offered me a Chemist role, which I could not refuse. I spent the next decade working as the Head Chemist and Safety Officer for Production.

I have become interested in Real Estate over the past few years. My wife and I live on an acreage in Leduc County, just East of beautiful Beaumont. My wife’s love for equestrian jumping led us down the path of purchasing 80 acres in Strathcona County, where she runs a large equestrian riding and boarding facility. We personally spent the first year cleaning garbage from the farmland, while construction of the road and riding facility were underway. The farm also came with two farmhouses, which I have spent the last 3 years renovating. After loads of demolition, we had the basement on the first house framed, wired and plumbed. I drywalled the basement, mudded, taped and painted it. We installed a new bathroom and I painted the entire house. I tiled and grouted the bathroom and kitchen, installed laminate flooring in the dining room and living room, and installed crown moulding and baseboards. We had the vinyl siding and roofing replaced. In the second house, I painted all of the walls, epoxied the basement floor, installed trim, tiled both bathrooms and installed a new shower. I have replaced nearly every light fixture, switch and plug-in in both houses. I am incredibly proud of the endless hours of hard work I have poured into these houses and the transformation has been incredible! We now have tenants living in both houses, enjoying the fruits of our labour!

After seeing the farm develop and learning so much about houses and finishing, I had become captivated with Real Estate. Meanwhile, I had become restless being stuck in a laboratory. As the Head Chemist, my role was product development, problem-solving, and working directly with customers to help them achieve their product goals. My strong background in science has given me an analytical mind for studying trends, statistics and customer service. However, I feel that my strongest talent is working with people! I love meeting new people, working with people, and helping them achieve their goals. Last year I decided that it was time to spread my wings and pursue a new career – Realty! I passed the Real Estate Council of Alberta’s licensing requirements and am now a Residential REALTOR® with the brokerage RE/MAX Elite! In my new career, I am able to combine my love for Real Estate with my analytical skills to help people achieve their goals – finding the perfect new home or selling their old one, or both! My training with the brokerage and the Realtors’ Association of Edmonton has given me the skillset to perform Comparative Market Analysis of houses on the market and evaluate pricing fluctuations in specific neighbourhoods. This information is paramount in helping me assist buyer clients in finding the right home, in the right neighbourhood, at the right price. Conversely, it allows me to help seller clients list their property at a competitive market price to achieve a sale and maximize profitability.

Why engage me as your REALTOR® versus any of the other 3500+ REALTORS® in the Edmonton Area? Quite simply, when you hire me as your Designated Buyer or Seller Agent, I will give you 100% effort – and results! I have had a strong work ethic my entire life and that work ethic continues today in my Real Estate Career. I am also a very easy-going, fun-loving guy and you will enjoy working with me! That being said, I am also incredibly meticulous and will ensure that the i’s are dotted and the t’s are crossed in your Real Estate transaction. My goal is to make your buying or selling experience as smooth, enjoyable and efficient as possible. I thank you for your consideration and I hope you give me the opportunity to earn your business! I look forward to meeting you and representing you!

INTERESTS and HOBBIES

Growing up in Edmonton I was fortunate to have access to one of the most extensive river valleys in North America! My friends and I used to mountain bike endlessly through Mill Creek Ravine! I have also found a love for road biking and have ridden in the Alberta RIDE TO CONQUER CANCER four times after my Father passed away, raising over $30’000 for cancer research and treatment!

I live on an acreage with my beautiful wife of 12 years, where I enjoy a large backyard and tons of yard work! We have had a furry family – 2 dogs, 2 cats and several horses on the farm! The farm also keeps me busy with yard work, and I have learned to operate the skid steer and tractor for plowing in the winter.

I have always loved the outdoors. We are fortunate to live in Alberta amongst the mighty Rocky Mountains! I enjoy snowboarding in the winter and camping in the summer. I really enjoy fishing – fly fishing, boat fishing or even casting off the dock at Pigeon Lake! Kayaking down the Wild Hay River is also a good time!

I am fortunate to have an excellent gym at the barn, where I enjoy pumping iron. At home I like to read and am an avid fan of music! I don’t spend too much time on TV, but enjoy a good movie from time to time.

I also enjoy learning. I have always been studious and enjoy tackling new challenges. I spent the last year studying Residential Real Estate and obtained my Residential Licence. Now I am focused daily on learning new applications for my Real Estate business, studying market trends, changes in policy, and marketing. I have aligned myself with RE/MAX Elite – the largest and most productive brokerage in Edmonton – where I continue to learn from mentoring and ongoing training programs. My goal is to be a lifelong learner and a man of value.

As Albert Einstein said “Try not to become a man of success—but rather a man of value. He is considered successful in our day and gets more out of life than he puts in. But a man of value will give more than he receives.” This is the level of service I aspire to give to my clients.
