I am proud to be a part of the Sherwood Park RE/MAX Elite Office and serve Strathcona County, where I spend a lot of time tending to our 80-acre equestrian horse riding facility. I am in Strathcona County daily and am excited to serve Sherwood Park and county residents! Please feel free to contact me at any time. Sherwood Park is Edmonton’s classy neighbour to the east – located in Strathcona County – and is Alberta’s largest hamlet! Strathcona County is home to nearly 100’000 residents, a mixture of residential and rural housing, and farming operations. While Sherwood Park is plenty large enough to be its own city, it remains a hamlet and is governed by the Strathcona County Council. It has all the amenities of a nice-sized city: Strathcona Community Hospital for healthcare, Station #1 for Fire and Emergency Services, Sherwood Park Mall for shopping, great dining, outdoor parks for adventure, several recreation centers, sporting fields, theatres and galleries! The Royal Canadian Mounted Police proudly serve Strathcona County.

Outdoor enthusiasts have an abundance of options in Sherwood Park! The Parkway Trail System boasts 135km of paved multiuse trails. Visit Strathcona Wilderness Centre for outdoor adventure, disc golf, hiking and camping! Sherwood Park Natural Area is an excellent 3km hike with maintained paths and lookout platforms. East of Sherwood Park is even more parks! The Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area has 85km of natural hiking trails. Walk amongst 1500 kilogram Bison at Elk Island National Park, or drop a kayak in the lake and camp the night! Minister Lake Game Bird Sanctuary is a breathtaking 20’000 acres of protected land for threatened migratory birds. Here you may see large white pelicans, great blue heron and a plethora of other wildlife in their natural habitat!

There are several venues to choose from for sports and athletics: Glen Allan Rec Centre, Broadmoor Arena, Kinsmen Leisure Centre, Strathcona Athletic Park, Millennium Place, and Sherwood Park Arena & Sports Centre. Show off your skills at the skateboard park and BMX park! If you like outdoor sports, you will find room to run in one of the 37 parks and sports fields scattered throughout the community!

Sherwood Park hockey fans cheer on their local Alberta Junior Hockey League team – the Sherwood Park Crusaders – as well as the Edmonton Oilers! There are probably even a few Calgary Flames fans too. I even know a guy in the Park that cheers for the Toronto Maple Leafs! 

Football is also very popular in Sherwood Park. Join the fun with the Sherwood Park Rams or Wolverines! Follow the Facey Falcons or support the Salisbury Sabres for some high-intensity high school football!  

Baseball fans can enjoy the Sherwood Park Dukes playing at Centennial Park. Or play ball yourselves in several local ball diamonds!

Sherwood Park’s Festival Place is a major draw for concerts, theatre, dance and music from local and touring artists! It is home to ~100 performances annually! I had the pleasure of seeing one of my old favourites, BIG SUGAR, play at Festival Place. What a show! What a great venue! Excellent seats and delicious beer!

Historical Bremner House depicts the settlement of Strathcona County and the lives of its residents in the early 20th century. Have you ever been to a tractor pull?! Come down in August! Once the snow flies, Christmas in the Heartland is a wintertime spectacle worth taking in at Bremner House!

Strathcona County Museum & Archives is another attraction showcasing pioneer life in Strathcona County. Here you can touch and feel historical artifacts and tools of the past! Visit the old general store, wait at the old train station and check out the workings of a historic grain elevator – a symbol of prairie life in Alberta!

Strathcona Parks Heritage Mile is a nice 2.5 km trail where you can also catch a glimpse of the past, including the historical Smeltzer House and Ottewell Homestead. 

Sherwood Park is also home to several excellent boutique Art Galleries, displaying the works of local and international artists! Check out the Loft Gallery, Gallery@501 or Picture This! The Spark Centre is home to the Canadian famous Glen Ronald gallery. Fuse glass and create pottery at the Smeltzer House Centre for Visual Arts! Pick up a piece from The Park for your own private collection!

There are 3 School Boards in Sherwood Park: 

  • Elk Island Public Schools Regional Division No. 14
  • Elk Island Catholic Separate Regional Division No. 41 
  • Conseil Scholaire Centre-Nord

There are 2 public high schools: Bev Facey Community High School and Salisbury Composite High School. And 2 Catholic high schools: Archbishop Jordan Catholic High School and Strathcona Christian Academy, which educates students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.  

Sherwood Park is also home to Canada’s first Charter School! New Horizon’s Charter School offers an advanced education program for promising pupils from Kindergarten to Grade 9.  

In my opinion, Sherwood Park is an excellent place to live and raise a family! It has all the amenities of a large city while preserving a small-town feel. Sherwood Park has historically had a lower crime rate than in Edmonton, yet it is close enough to Edmonton to easily commute and enjoy all of the major sporting events and concerts that Edmonton has to offer! Take a walk in The Park, live in The Park! Call Bruce.
